Quick Observations During the Week of Reckoning

In Uncategorized on March 17, 2009 at 8:49 pm

It’s the final week of the regular season.  Two playoff spots are on the line, and five teams have realistic dreams of entering the post-season through one of these two magical portals.  Additionally there is one first-round bye still up for grabs; it will likely go to either my Flambuoyant squad or to Black Fraze, although Yes We Did is mathematically alive as a contender for this spot also.

Are We Witnessing the Biggest Travesty in Late Season Roster Management in TT History?

Yes, that is the question I am asking, and the bullseye falls squarely on the chest of Mr. Light.  He trails The Show and The Ego by 2 games for the 5th and 6th playoff seeds, and the aforementioned “gentlemen” are playing each other this week.  We are 2/7 of the way through judgment week.  Mr. Light has 35 moves left.  He has used none.  You cannot take these moves with you when the season ends and you miss the playoffs.  They will be more worthless than Monopoly money next week if Raymond does not use them effectively, and use them now.  What makes this a potential travesty of epic proportions is the fact that Mr. Light’s roster boasts the following:  Chris Andersen,  Krstic, Turiaf, Ronnie Brewer, Mario Chalmers, Stuckey.  I’ll assume for arguments sake that Kirilenko does not belong on the curb with the others, but I’d jettison him tomorrow if necessary to make the playoffs.  This is year 10, but it often appears as if Mr. Light is still in Kindergarten.

Josh Howard is the Fantasy Equivalent of Kryptonite.

One should never say never, but my resolve to avoid Josh Howard at all costs in future has become even stronger over the last few weeks, as the perennially injured stoner is again nursing injury.  It has become as predictable as the rising sun.  (Note: the Ego intially considered the Nash for Howard and B Davis a steal for The Show).

You Heard it Here First (or maybe you didn’t).

It takes no Nostradamus to predict that injuries to key players will likely play a deciding role in the forthcoming playoffs.  And I’m not talking about the myriad of currently injured players, but rather the inevitable falling of some who are improbably still healthy in this injury-cursed season.

Let’s play ball ladies and gentlemen.

Real Player Rater

Lights Out!

Lights Out!

Recently, the Yahoo player rater has been bugging me. I don’t like how there is no way to configure it, and we are stuck with looking at a rater with the default settings (including Turnovers). Since turnovers is a bullshit category for fantasy, and we don’t include it, the player rater is always skewed. For this reason, I use a different player rater. Here are the top 50 players based on averages so far for this season.

You’ll need to click the title of this post to see it on it’s own page to see the table formatted properly.
